BRiaN'S WoRLD: Music: Faves of 1983

Here's some of my favorite/recommended music for this year. Clicking on the ALBUM COVER or ALBUM NAME will take you to purchase that particular CD.

Favorite Albums of 1983

Def Leppard PYROMANIA
Mercury Records
Duran Duran DURAN DURAN (re-issue)
EMI/Capitol Records
This is the re-issued version that added "Is There Something I Should Know" and removing "To The Shore".
Heaven 17 THE LUXURY GAP
Virgin Records
Duran Duran SEVEN AND THE RAGGED TIGER
EMI/Capitol Records
This Duran record was the one that truly made me a giant Durannie. "Union Of The Snake" is a super song and one of my favorite videos.
Tim Finn ESCAPADE
Mushroom/A&M Records
OMD DAZZLE SHIPS
A&M Records
A weird and somewhat experimental record for OMD. This album sounds more like a Kraftwerk record than a traditional OMD record to me. I like it a lot though. It features some great songs like "Electricity".
Oingo Boingo GOOD FOR YOUR SOUL
A&M Records
Tears For Fears THE HURTING
Mercury Records
Thompson Twins SIDE KICKS
Arista Records
The first Thompson Twins record produced by Alex Sadkin. This album is a lot more synth pop than their earlier work. The band now only consists of three members instead of 7-10. Contains the hits "Love On Your Side", "Lies", "Watching", and "If You Were Here", which was featured in the John Hughes film SIXTEEN CANDLES. The original UK release, QUICK STEP AND SIDE KICKS, included an extra record of remixes.
Yaz (Yazoo) YOU AND ME BOTH
Sire Records
The second and final album by Yazoo.
Paul Young NO PARLEZ
CBS Records
Paul Young's first record since he split from The Q-Tips. The record features "Come Back And Stay" and "Love Of The Common People", which was also featured in the film SIXTEEN CANDLES.

Other noteworthy albums of 1983:
UB40 - "LABOUR OF LOVE"

Best Soundtracks and Compilations of 1983

  • U2 - "Under A Blood Red Sky"
Recorded live at Red Rocks, CO.
